What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a healthcare specialty that includes the evaluation, assessment, and treatment of individuals with limitations in functional mobility. Physiotherapy services are provided by Physiotherapists, who are professionals registered by the HCPC. Physiotherapists are required to have a professional degree, Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate degree from an accredited institution and must sit for a licensing exam to practice. They are trained to assess your condition and help you regain maximal functional mobility and independence.

Physiotherapists use a variety of treatment modalities and techniques to help you move better and feel better; treatment is very customised to individual needs such as Acupuncture and Muscular Energy Technique. Choosing Physiotherapy has been shown to help you recover quickly and safely, and it can save you money due to decreased overall healthcare costs.

Do I Need Physiotherapy?

How do you know if you require the skilled services of a Physiotherapist? If you have an injury or illness that results in pain, physical impairment, or limited normal movement/loss of function, a Physiotherapist can help. Physiotherapists treat people across the entire lifespan. Many Physiotherapists specialise in treating a certain population, like children, the elderly, or athletes. Regardless of age, if you have impaired mobility, a Physiotherapy evaluation may be warranted to offer treatment and a strategy to improve function.

Physiotherapists can treat many other problems besides the ones illustrated above. Be sure to speak with your doctor if you feel you may benefit from this treatment. When an injury or illness occurs that limits your ability to move about safely or normally, a referral to a Physiotherapist may be made. We are approved by several health insurance providers, like Bupa. Please check with your insurer. Physiotherapists work closely with patients, doctors, and family members to ensure safe and rapid return to maximal function.

Physiotherapists can also help you prevent injury or loss of functional mobility. Your Physiotherapist can analyse your movements before you are injured and offer strategies to help keep you healthy and moving well.
